How we manage our financial resources

The Director of Resources has overall corporate responsibility for the control of the finances of NHS North East Essex:

The Board and the Finance & Performance Committee receive monthly updates on the financial position of the organisation and the Board makes decisions in regard to the allocation of these resources. It is a key target, set by the Department of Health, for NHS North East Essex to achieve financial balance by the end of each financial year. NHS North East Essex produces a Finance Report for each Board Meeting

Commissioning services

NHS North East Essex, with Clinical Commissioning colleagues, is responsible for determining the need for hospital and community based services, negotiating with local providers and funding the purchase of appropriate levels of care. This includes outpatients, diagnostic investigations, inpatient and day case treatment, accident and emergency services, including ambulance and emergency admissions to hospital, community hospital service and domiciliary care. The Director of Commissioning & Business Delivery has corporate responsibility to oversee this expenditure. The provision of these services for local residents is monitored throughout the year to ensure value for money and compliance with all NHS and locally set performance and quality criteria.

Financial Accounting

Financial accounting services, including payment of invoices, cash management, maintenance of ledgers and production of final accounts working papers are provided to NHS North East Essex by Anglia Support Partnership (ASP) hosted by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.
