Colchester Primary Care Centre

Primary care centre

The Primary Care Centre building is built on the site of the old Turner Village building.  The project is a result of public/private partnership. Striking and imposing from the outside, the new purpose built centre is equally impressive once you step inside its spacious interior.

Designed specifically to improve primary care in the area, the new centre is not to be confused with Colchester General Hospital, which provides acute hospital care.

Facilities at the centre include:

  • North Colchester Healthcare Centre
  • 20 station dialysis unit
  • community dentistry services - includes four dental surgeries for people with special needs
  • a chronic disease management service - support for people with heart, lung and musculoskeletal conditions including, for the first time in Colchester, an assessment unit for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • podiatry
  • a Child Development Centre - care and treatment for children with special needs, such as rheumatoid arthritis and cerebral palsy
  • A child protection and child and family consultation service - provided by North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

The 'jewel in the crown' is the 20-station kidney dialysis unit. Patients with kidney disease are able to receive vital treatment in this state-of-the-art dialysis unit.  Previously, patients requiring dialysis from the Colchester and Tendring area have faced the inconvenience of lengthy journeys, as far afield as London, for treatment.

The 20-station unit has the capacity to treat up to 120 patients a year.
