NHS - North East Essex

Tenders and Contracts

NHS North East Essex has an income of £535 million.  This money is spent in a variety of ways, including:

  • GPs, pharmacists, opticians and dentists (who are all independent contractors)
  • NHS hospitals
  • Independent sector hospitals
  • Nursing homes
  • Other commercial organisations supplying clinical services
  • Voluntary organisations and third sector organisations supplying services
  • Commercial organisations supplying goods

In order to manage these arrangements NHS North East Essex has its own small procurement team. It also works in partnership with other organisations to purchase the goods and services it needs to meet the health needs of the local population in the most clinically and cost effective way.

The NHS North East Essex Procurement Team tends to concentrate on the purchasing of clinical services, while the purchase of goods and equipment is usually undertaken on our behalf by the Procurement Team at Colchester Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.

In both these areas NHS North East Essex works closely with the East of England Collaborative Procurement Hub for advice and specific project input.

Our team currently consists of the following members:

Alison Shaw – Head of Commercial Services

Ben Farrelly – Commercial Services Project Manager

Carolyn Kadlec – Team Administrator
