Drinking alcohol may seem harmless enough during your teenage years, but the truth is alcohol can be seriously bad for your health. As a teen, your body is still growing and developing and introducing harmful materials can have long lasting consequences.
If you drink too much, you could end up saying or doing things you don’t mean and regretting them afterwards.
Other people find that alcohol can cause them to act in an exaggerated way and get angry at things that normally wouldn’t bother them or even ending up in a fight.
Did you know that about 10,000 young people end up in hospital every year due to drinking?
Alcohol (bevy, booze)
Law: It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 years to buy or be sold alcohol.
Alcohol can be seen as a more acceptable drug (yes alcohol is classed as a drug!) as we often see it being used by lots of different people. But alcohol can be just as powerful as other drugs. Alcohol is technically called a depressant drug, which basically means it slows down your body’s responses in all kind of ways. In small amounts it can make you feel good but too much can make you feel sleepy, out of control, sick and end up as a hangover.
Some useful websites on alcohol are listed below, but remember you can talk to your doctor or young person service about any concerns you may have.
